"They have visited the Philippines at least two or three times. But it looks like their fans out here still have not had enough of them and are once more looking forward to watching the Backstreet Boys (BSB) in action in the This Is Us World Tour at the Araneta Coliseum on Feb. 27. You all know the Backstreet Boys. They spearheaded the boy band revolution of the ’90s. They had this interesting quality of being able to mix dance tunes with romantic ballads in their albums that kids loved. You want to dance, go Get Down. You want to make out, then play I’ll Never Break Your Heart. If I remember right, they released five albums and have sold over a hundred thousand units. Some of their biggest hits are Everybody, Backstreet’s Back, Larger Than Life, Quit Playing Games With My Heart, As Long As You Love Me, I Want It That Way, Show Me The Meaning Of Being Lonely and lots of others. The Backstreet Boys is what is known in the trade as a “manufactured group.” That means somebody puts the group together instead of the members forming it themselves. The concept was not new. The Monkees during the ’60s was the first group of this sort. But it was because of the success of the BSB that we later got N’Sync, Boyzone, 98 Degrees, Westlife, Human Nature and many more from all over the world. Most of these boy groups have already either disbanded or changed personnel, but the Backstreet has remained, in a way, intact and continually active for the past 15 years or so. I repeat, in a way, because the BSB is now down to four members instead of the original five. No disbanding and no change happened. It was just that fifth guy Kevin Richardson, who was the oldest at 22 when BSB started felt that he should move on to other more age appropriate things. When last heard from, he was on tour in the Richard Gere role of the musical Chicago. He also played the part on Broadway and the West End in London. Presented by Araneta Coliseum and Viva Concerts & Events, the This Is Us World Tour, is the second by the BSB without Kevin and coincides with the release of the new album of the same title. Take note of that word, second. This means that Nick Carter, Howie Dorough, Brian Littrell and AJ McLean have successfully hurdled the tests of being a foursome three years ago. That tour, which by the way, included a stop at the Araneta, was for the Unbreakable CD, their first album without Kevin. Now available in the stores is This Is Us and boy, did they go out of their way to be different. Doubtless pleased over the market’s warm acceptance of Unbreakable, the BSB decided it was time they tried something new by updating the Backstreet Boys sound. Hip-hop stars T-Pain and Pitbull are among the Boys’ collaborators in the CD. The presence of those names should give you an idea of what the album is about. This Is Us is a collection of trendy, club music of excellent quality. You want your music hot and hip and sexy then listen to This Is Us. You do not want to think of the BSB that way? They should have stayed wholesome. Sorry, these boys are now many years older. Besides, I really like the idea that they have dusted up their music and brought it up to current trends. Helpless featuring Pitbull, which totally departs from the BSB sound is the star of the CD. Straight To My Heart and Bigger come next and are the most radio friendly. If you want a hint of the old sound there is She’s A Dream, which the Boys co-wrote with Daen Simmons and T-Pain. The other cuts are Bye Bye Love, All Of Your Life (You Need Love), If I Knew Then, This Is Us, PDA, Masquerade, Shattered and Undone. It would be fun to find out how they will do these songs in the show. Those who do not think so have no cause for worry though, as they do in every concert, the Backstreet Boys promise to perform many of their early hits in the Araneta show."

Chris Trondsen di Pacific Rim ha intervistato il nostro AJ il giorno del 27/01/10 quando il nostro ragazzo ha partecipato all' undicesimo anniversario di "Carnival Choreographers Ball held" al Vanguard di HollYwood.. Ecco il video:



Proseguendo ecco un'intervista più recente condotta dal programma TV giapponese "Elle Tv". In quest'intervista, come ci aspettavamo, si parla del lavoro solista di AJ nell'album "Have it all".



Inoltre ecco un pò di merchandising sul nuovo album (Non presente qui in Italia ovviamente); i fans asiatici ne stanno accumulando un bel po' ! ( Che invidia!)

Giappone + Intervista a Brian!

Oggi si è aperta la parte Asiatica del This is us tour!!
Come sappiamo questa sera i nostri amati guys si esibiranno alla Saitama super Arena di Tokyo!
Attendiamo nuove notizie al riguardo...anche perchè sarà sicuramente un tour fenomenale, visto le migliaia di fans con cui l'Asia batte (aihmè) il resto del mondo!
I Backstreet boys hanno fatto il loro ingresso in Giappone attraverso i un'intervista ( Bsb on Ontama, di cui propongo la visione su Youtube! ) molto ironica, che come sempre ci fa sorridere e ridere mostrando il lato più scherzoso dei boys..

A seguire un'articolo con un'intervista a Brian Littrell da parte del giornalista Aniruddh Dodiya:

American pop band, Backstreet Boys, are set to tour India this month. The band will perform live at Rock ‘N India, the country’s only international music festival and will be appearing with fellow musician Richard Marx. There will be two dates for this year's festival one in Bangalore and then in Delhi, this is the festival's third year.

The Grammy-nominated vocal group has been together since 1993 and are known for their hits "Show Me the Meaning," "Quit Playing Games With My Heart", "Straight Through My heart" and "As Long As You Love Me" and have sold over 30 million albums throughout their career. The popular crooners will be headlining the festival, which kicks off in the the capital of Delhi on February 20, at NSIC grounds in Okhla in south Delhi and in Bengaluru on February 22 at Palace Grounds. Besides their festival performance, Backstreet Boys also plan to visit Mumbai.

Also accompanying Backstreet Boys and Marx at the festival will be South African explosive alternative band Prime Circle, drummer Jayce Lewis, supported by Indian bands Swarathma and Indigo Children.

I had a chance to speak with Brian Littrell of Backstreet Boys to discuss what their tour and what the band's been up to.

Q: You are performing in India, finally. Are you guys excited?
A: Yes, very much. We know we've a huge fan base here. We've run into many Indians in our shows, especially in Europe, who walk up to us and tell us to tour India. So, here we are, in 17 years, touring India for the first time.

Q: The band has been together for two decades. What's the secret?
A: There's no secret to our success. What has kept us going is the fact that we enjoy what we do and respect each others' spaces. When we are planning a tour or something, we always ensure that we choose dates everyone is comfortable with. And being a band, our decisions are considered keeping in mind what's best for the band and our music.

Q: Your music still is referred to as boy band music. Do you mind?
A: Yes, we are. We've been around for 17 years and we're still called a 'boy' band. Isn't that nice? Seriously speaking, it is important for musicians to have an identity and we're happy to have one of ours.

Q: How do you improvise on your music?
A: We keep challenging ourselves. Today, if we're to define our music, we're a little bit of country, R&B and pop. Eventually, what we're doing is not rocket science, it's just pop music.

Q: Who're the current musicians that you like?
A: I think Miley Cyrus is someone who is not only talented but has great influence over the youth. The Jonas Brothers also are very good. I enjoy their music, they are reminiscent of the kind of music we used to have when we started off.

Q: You're now playing alongside the legendary Richard Marx. Has he influenced your music?
A: Of course, he has! He's one amazing singer and his song "Right Here Waiting" is one of my all-time favorite tunes. I'm looking forward to his music, as well as the music by the Indian bands. And, of course, I'll also be checking out some Bollywood music.

Q: Do you listen to Indian music ?
A: It's funny you're asking me this because only a few days ago I discovered that one of my favorite singers, Norah Jones, has an Indian parent. So, my exposure to Indian music will be her and probably the songs from the film Slumdog Millionaire.

Q: What else is on your checklist for the India tour?
A: Loads of Indian music, Indian food and, most importantly, interacting with our fans. I cannot tell you how excited we are.

The group presently consists of Brian Littrell, Nick Carter, A J McLean and Howie Dorough, after Kevin Richardson quit the band in 2006.

Domanda : Finalmente farete una performance in India. Siete eccitati ?
Risposta: Sì, molto; sappiamo che abbiamo molti fans qui. Abbiamo incontrato molti indiani nei nostri spettacoli, specialmente in Europa, che ci sono venuti incontro e ci hannod etto di fare un tour in India; così, eccoci qui, dopo 17 anni, in India per la prima volta.
Domanda: La band è stata insieme per due decenni. Qual è il segreto?
Risposta: Non c'è nessun segreto sul nostro successo. Ciò che ci ha tenuti sempre insiem è il fatto che ci piace quello che facciamo e rispettiamo gli spazi degli altri. Quando stiamo pianificando un tour o qualcosa del genere, ci assicuriamo sempre di sceglie date a cui tutti vanno bene, ed essendo una band, le nostre decisioni sono prese tenendo conto di ciò che è meglio per la band e la nostra musica.
Domanda : La vostra musica è ancora denominata musica da boy band. Vi va bene?
Risposta: Sì, siamo noi. Siamo stati insieme per 17 anni e siamo ancora chiamati "boy band" . Non è bello? Seriamente parlando, è importante per i musicisti avere un' identità e siamo felici di averne una.
Domanda: Come improvvisate la vostra musica?
Risposta: Ci teniamo impegnati. Oggi, se vogliamo definire la nostra musica possiamo dire che siamo un po 'di country, R&B e pop. Alla fine, quello che stiamo facendo non è scienza "rocket" , è semplicemente musica pop.
Domanda: Quale musicista attuale ti piace?
Risposta: Miley Cyrus è qualcuno che non ha solo talento, ma ha una grande influenza sui giovani. I Jonas Brothers sono anche molto buoni, mi piace la loro musica, ricorda il genere di musica che abbiamo usato quando siamo partiti.
Domanda: State cantando ora a fianco del leggendario Richard Marx. Ha influenzato in qualceh modo la vostra musica?
Risposta: Certo, Lui è un cantante straordinario e la sua canzone "Right Here Waiting" è uno dei miei di tutti i tempi brani preferiti. Non vedo l'ora di sentire la sua musica, così come la musica dalle bande indiane, e naturalmente scoprirò alcuni brani di musica "Bollywoodiana".
Domanda: Ascoltate musica indiana?
Risposta: È buffo! me lo stai chiedendo solo perché pochi giorni fa ho scoperto che uno dei miei cantanti preferiti, Norah Jones, ha una madre indiana. Così, la mia "esposizione" alla musica indiana sarà per sua madre e probabilmente per le canzoni del film Slumdog Millionaire.
Domanda: Cos'altro c'è sulla vostra lista per il tour indiano?
Risposta: Un sacco di musica indiana, cibi indiani e, soprattutto, interazaione con i nostri fans! Non posso spiegarvi quanto siamo entusiasti al riguardo!
Il gruppo è attualmente costituito da Brian Littrell, Nick Carter, AJ McLean e Howie Dorough, dopo che Kevin Richardson ha lasciato la band nel 2006.
